A hidden speakeasy in Omaha became the center of a First Amendment fight after Nebraska officials claimed the business couldn’t legally use the words “barber shop” or even display a barber pole without a barber license. The owners say the theme was a tribute to their late father, a longtime barber whose legacy inspired the concept. The state says the branding crosses the line.
